The Edirol FA-101 (an Audio device like your) don't work in Windows under Boot Camp with Apple Mac Pro Hardware and his drivers installed..
Your post is to conferm that Apple hardware has big problems with Firewire 1394 peripherals.
Like you, I can't find in Sound Control Panel the detailed list of the Audio device of Edirol FA-101 (4 analog stereo channel IN, 4 analog stereo channel OUT and 2 stereo channel SPDIF).
I thing this is to demonstrate that Apple drivers had to be update regarding the Firewire management.
Now I'll open a post to ask this update to Apple (If you agree).

The Alesis MultiMix FireWire series mixers were discontinued a number of years ago. We can confirm there was no on going driver development for these products. The 08/2011 driver for Mac OS 10.8 is the final release for this product. The most recently supported operating systems for the FireWire series are:. Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8 operating. The Alesis I/O26 is a very competent multi-channel audio/MIDI interface whose insert points and robust construction give it a distinctive appeal. The audio quality will be more than a match for most home or budget project studios. Here is another part of the puzzle. I returned my Alesis iO26 audio interface to the dealer, who graciously took it back even though I have had it for 9 weeks. I bought another 1394-based Firewire audio interface (at double the cost)- a MOTU Traveler. I installed the software drivers in Mac. The Mac side worked flawlessly. I bought an Alesis io26 a couple of months ago, and in the beginning it worked fine. Now i don't seem to get any signal from the audio interface to my software. It gets power and every line in works, and it shows, but nothing on my Mac. I have tried to update drivers, but nothing improved. Alesis iO 14,iO 26 Driver/Application Pack 3.1.80.1210 Firmware 1.6.
